Third and final hill for the day. Bit of a wet drive to the car park for the third hill. It had stopped raining when I pulled up but I was still a bit damp from the descent of Low Fell, oh well never mind.

I picked up my bag again and it was feeling heavier this time, it had been a long day. I checked the map and this was the shortest walk off the day of which I was glad.

The hill “Dent” was surrounded by Forestry Commission land so the main track up was big and wide and easy walking but it was not long before the route turned off that track and on to a steeper path and into the trees.

There was a lot of trees down so there must have been some storm through the woods fairly recently. One or two were down across the path so I had to climb over them which was a little sketchy as they were balanced on the edge of the path and may slip off at some point.

Once I got out the trees the drizzle hard started but it was not far to the summit.

No real views this time with current weather, I got the mast and flowerpot antenna set up and called CQ

I got some contacts straight away, my third was from Wales with Don GW0PLP, we had a quick chat and he had a suggestion that would I be up for trying a 2M SSB contact once I had my 4 contacts to activate the summit. I said yes I’m up for that.

One more contact and the Don came back to me and we agreed on a frequency, I turned turned the dial and changed the mode and called. Him came back to me! 278Km both with using vertical antennas and not yargis. What a result.

With that I packed up and headed down the hill to go and find some tea before heading to the Scout Camp I was going to for the weekend.
