Got my DIY done on Friday and Saturday so I had the chance to pop out for some field radio on Sunday morning. To be honest when I got up I was not feeling it at all to go out, the sky was grey and the was a little bit of drizzle and the sofa looked pretty comfy.

And it was whilst I drank my coffee but the forecast sad it was going to clear up so onwards and upwards. I got dressed and grabbed all my gear, boots on and out the house.

It was a very pleasant walk with the sun on my face until I got to track down to the park, it’s muddy at the best of times and today it was pretty bad, kept slipping but did not go over so small wins.

I got to usual place and  was now out of the shelter of the hedges I could really feel the wind. Might be a cold one this.

I got the mast and antenna setup in the normal way an inverted slopping  L, got the radio on and had a tune a round and a listen. A few other OTA stations were on but in pileups so was not going to break through with 5w, so I found a free frequency and spotted myself and started calling CQ.

Richard M1AOB was the first to come back to me and then a mix of POTA regulars and some new to me hunters. Was nice to work Alex PD3RL and Don G0RQL.

I heard the red kites first and then I saw them, at least 2 of them and one kept swooping down near to me. Was lovely to watch them in the sky.

I moved over to 20M and got nearly 20 QSO’s across Europe from Finland to the Canary Islands. The wind had picked up a bit and I was really starting to feel the cold so thought I would have a quick go on some other bands and made 3 contacts on 17m and one 15m.

Neil M0NJH and Alistar M7FPX had planned to have a CW session on 40 so I changed bands and had look at the WhatsApp group chat, Neil was on the air but Al was not quite ready so I jumped in and made quick CW QSO with Neil.

Then it was time to pack up and head home to warm up.
