POTA GB-4573 Roach Lime Hills Site of Significant Scientific Interest 2025-10-30

After the earlier activation at POTA GB-2276 Townclose Hills Nature Reserve & GB-4576 The Lines Way Nature Reserve & National Scenic Trail 2025-10-30 I had a look at the map and figured out which park to do next. Roach Lime Hills looked good as it was quite near a garden centre, I could ask my XYL to pick me up from.

To get there was I going to have to walk through quite a urban estates, not my favourite walking at all. As I got closer, I saw on the map there was a track I might be able to follow to cut off some of the urban walking. I followed it and it led to a property with a gate, nuts. The field to side looked like it had a trail around it so I followed it, but the further I went, the less it looked like a trail. I found a break in the hedge and could see a footpath so ducked through. Yet more estate to walk thorough.

I finally got back out in the open and headed up a hill and through some trees. Checking the map I was inside the activation zone, so I had a look for somewhere to set up. The path was nice and wide and there was a fence along it, I mounted the mast on a fence pole and got the antenna strung up.

As I was high up (ish) I thought I would try 2m first and heard someone calling CQ on 2 so I replied and we had nice chat.

After that I moved to HF and worked some of the contacts from earlier activation. 40M started to die off so tried 20m and got Italy. 12 in total and that was enough for today. I got packed up and headed  off to the pick up point for a lift home.
