Was meant to be doing a SOTA today, plan was to collect the car from garage and head over towards Skipton but after getting the car back I got about 20 minutes from the garage, and all the warning lights came back on. This was meant to be fixed. I said few rude words out loud then called the garage to say I was bringing the car back.
Got the car back to the garage and they said they would have a look and let me know. I knew there were some new POTA locations nearby and I had my day bag and walking boots on, so I called the XLY and told her what had happened and I was ok for a lift.
As it happens the garage is right next to one of the new parks which is a trail, I had a look on the map and saw it cut across the edge of another park so decided to try a do a 2fer.
The trail is an old railway line closed under the Beaching cuts, so it was an easy path to walk along. Was not long before I got in the 2fer area and was trying to find somewhere to set up and activate. A path ran off from the trail up a slope but I chose to stay on the main trail for now. After about 30 meters on I saw a nice looking rock formation which looked like it could be a good place to set up and activate the parks. I walked up the hill and saw it was on the other path I had seen before.

I got the mast setup on one side other path and and had the antenna over the path but at a decent height so it was not in the way of anyone. The counter poise was laid along the path. I got the radio set up and started tuning around on 40m to find a free frequency. Once I found one I started calling CQ and put a spot out.

Got hunted first by a regular hunter (G0RQL) and more calls came in. Had a few people walking down the path stop and say hello and ask what I was doing. Then one chap asked what my callsign was, I told him and he said I’m G4XSH. It’s really nice to met another fellow ham whilst out activating. We had a good chat and then he went on his way.
Got 12 in the log and decided to pack up and move on and try and get another park activated.
