Had the day off and what I was planning to do fell through. Gaz M7GAX had messaged earlier in the day if anyone was going to be out at a POTA as he was going to activate the new park in Selby but I said I was busy. Now I wasn’t!
Loaded up the car and got radio dog ready and headed down to Selby. The park has a little car park hidden away and I managed to get the last space. Gaz was there buying a ticket so we had a quick chat about operating. He was going to work from home the car, I decided to work from a bench in the park.
Fastened dog to a tree with a long lead as this park was next to road and had no fence. Got the slidewinder antenna and ic-705 set up and checked the spots.
I saw there was a German operator on 20m so quickly hunted him and then moved to my own frequency and called CQ. A few more in the log and then really bad interference! Should have checked with Gaz, he was on 20m too. Quickly got G5LSI and then went to look for a new band.
Moved to 40m and got some more contacts including G5LSI again. Was starting to get cold so hunted one more park, this time in Ireland.
Gaz came over to see how I was doing, he had had a massive pile up on 20. We decided to go and try the other new local park at Barlow Common.
